Allstate Corporation (The). The Groups principal activity is to provide personal property and casualty insurance business and the life insurance, retirement and investment products business. The Group conducts its business primarily in the United States and Canada. The Group operates in four segments: Allstate Protection, Discontinued Lines and Coverages, Allstate Financial and Corporate and Other. Allstate Protection segment sells private passenger auto and homeowners insurance to individuals in the United States and Canada. Discontinued Lines and Coverages consist of business no longer written by Group and include the results from environmental, asbestos and other discontinued lines. Allstate Financial segment provides life insurance, investment and retirement products in the United States. Corporate and Other comprise holding company activities and certain non-insurance operations.
