Cash America International, Inc.. The Group's principal activity is acquiring, establishing and operating pawnshops, which advance money on the security of pledged tangible personal property. The Group operates in three segments: The Pawn Lending operations, Cash Advance operations and Check Cashing operations. It offers secured non-recourse loans, commonly referred to as pawn loans, to individuals through its lending operations. It also offers small consumer cash advances in selected lending locations and on behalf of a third-party financial institution. The Group also provides check-cashing services through its subsidiaries. As of 31-Dec- 2008, the Group operated 501 pawnshops, including 14 franchises, in 22 states in the United States. It offers cash advances through 431 of its pawnshops in 174 locations. Check cashing operations consisted of 128 franchised and 5 company owned check cashing centers in 18 states.
