Covance Inc.. The Group's principal activity is providing a range of product development services, on a worldwide basis. The Group provides services primarily to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries. The Group also provides laboratory-testing services to the chemical, agrochemical and food industries. The operations of the Group are carried out through two segments. The Late-stage Development services segment includes central laboratory, clinical development, commercialization and other clinical support services. The operations of this segment involve evaluating a new compound for safety and early effectiveness as well as evaluating the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of the compound in the human body. The Early Development services segment includes preclinical and Phase I clinical service capabilities.
