Downey Financial Corporation. The Group's principal activities are to provide financial services to individuals and corporate customers. The Group conducts its business through two segments: Banking and Real estate investment. The Banking business attracts funds from the general public and institutions and originates and invests in loans, primarily residential real estate mortgage loans, mortgage-backed securities and investment securities. Real estate development and joint venture operations are conducted principally through the Group's wholly owned service corporation subsidiary, DSL Service Company. At 31-Dec-2007, the Group operated through 172 retail deposit branches in California including 90 full-service in-store branches.
